The Hyde Dendy is a welcoming pub on Paignton seafront, just moments from the beach and a short walk from Paignton Pier. Whether you’re stopping by after a coastal stroll, meeting friends for drinks or sitting down for a relaxed meal, you’ll find good food, refreshing drinks and an easy-going atmosphere.
Our menu brings together classic pub favourites, casual lunches and family-friendly choices. At the weekend, join us for unlimited breakfast or settle in for our much-loved Sunday Carvery.
Live sport plays a big part in life at The Hyde Dendy, with major matches shown across our screens, including our giant outdoor screen in the garden. We also host a weekly pub quiz and regular events throughout the year.
Located close to Paignton’s most popular attractions, including Paignton Pier, Vue Cinema and the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, we’re an easy stop for locals, families and visitors exploring the bay.
Paignton Bus Station and Paignton Train Station sit just around the corner, making us easy to reach from across Torbay and beyond.

WHY THE HYDE DENDY?
The Hyde Dendy takes its name from Arthur Hyde Dendy (1821–1886), a Victorian barrister, businessman and entrepreneur who played an important role in shaping Paignton into the seaside town we know today.
After building a successful career in Birmingham, Dendy settled in Paignton and became closely involved in the town’s development. He built hotels, supported the construction of Paignton Pier and introduced new ways for residents and visitors to experience the town and its coastline.
His ventures included bathing machines on Paignton beach, steam launches between Paignton, Torquay and Brixham, a local newspaper and the town’s first public horse-drawn omnibus service. He also created sporting and entertainment facilities, helping Paignton grow as a popular seaside destination.
His influence remains visible throughout the town, with both Hyde Road and Dendy Road carrying his name. Our pub proudly continues that connection, celebrating a man whose ideas, ambition and enthusiasm helped bring people to Paignton.

OUR HISTORY...
East Street Pub Co. traces its roots to the charming Devon town of Newton Abbot. Our journey began with the Union Inn, located on, you guessed it ‘East Street’ and soon expanded to include the Rio Grande and Olive Tapas venues, both just around the corner.
Founded by the Narvidge Family, local to the area and driven by a passion for creating something unique and exceptional, the family vision has grown remarkably over the years.
Expanding with new venues in Paignton and Teignmouth. While Olive later closed, Rio Grande underwent a major refurbishment in 2019, reopening as Twelve Twenty, a nod to the year Newton Abbot’s iconic clocktower was built.
Today, our portfolio includes over nine venues across South Devon, including the vibrant themed activity site VIVA in Torquay and the one-of-a-kind street golf experience on Paignton seafront, beneath The Hyde Dendy.
